Two Britons Honored for Fostering Saudi-British Ties

London, February 2012 - At the Saudi British Society's Annual Dinner, Rawabi Holding UK awards presentation, as part of Rawabi Holdings Community Investment Program, took place last week in London to honor two British citizens of high merit, based on their outstanding contributions to Saudi-British relations.

 

The presentations have been made by the donor of the awards, Mr. Abdulaziz AlTurki and the winners have given short talks on the contribution they have made to promoting Saudi-British relations.

 

The prizes, for making a substantial contribution to promoting Saudi-British relations, are this year awarded to Sir Alan Munro, former Chairman and one of the current VPs of Saudi British Society, in recognition of the work he has undertaken since his retirement, fostering links between the two countries by taking part in trade missions and conferences and tirelessly promoting Saudi-British relations through his many media appearances; and Mr. Michael McKinnon, a film-maker, whose films Arabia: Sand Sea and Sky (Eye of the Camel, Red Sea Rift and The Mountain Barrier) on the natural history of Saudi Arabia will be well known to many members and for covering Saudi Arabia's environmental efforts in his film The Tide of War and later profiled the conservation of the Arabian Oryx in his Return of the Unicorn and finally with his latest work is on the life of King Abdulaziz.

 

Sheikh Abdulaziz AlTurki, Group Chairman of Rawabi Holding, stated: 'this award is a gift to all those who contributed in strengthening the Saudi-British affairs, whereby both nations enjoy a long history of reinforced bilateral relations.' Through this award, Rawabi Holding always aspires to encourage the British to enhance their knowledge of our country, especially in the wake of the rapid growth and great prosperity that is being witnessed in Saudi Arabia across all levels, concluded AlTurki.

 

The selection of winners is done by a Saudi and British committee which reviews the candidates' history and assesses the extent of their contributions and their merit to win the prize.
